Shahar Somin, is a Postdoctoral Associate in the Human Dynamics Group, at the MIT Media Lab, working with Professor Alex ‘Sandy’ Pentland.
Shahar’s research concentrates on network theory, and specifically on comprehending statistical regularities in network dynamics, from both microscopic (node-level) and macroscopic (entire system level) perspectives. She employs large-scale data in order to establish better understanding of collective human behaviour and investigate emergent phenomena within networks.
Shahar completed her Ph.D. in Industrial Engineering from Tel Aviv University (Israel), and her M.Sc. and B.Sc. in Computer Science from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem (Israel).
Shahar has also worked as a Machine Learning research lead at Endor, an MIT-spinoff start-up, where she led algorithmic projects for developing predictive capabilities over large-scale where she led algorithmic projects for developing predictive capabilities over large-scale anonymized data.
